• Nubacha @ Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho, Melaka-Malacca

    Introduction:

NUBACHA!! Don't be fooled as it sounds like one of those Japanese style tea outlets, isn't it? It is definitely not one of them. Nubacha restaurant has been going for 10 months and is one of the historical town's venues of a smart choice for western food.

    Ambiance:

A combination of old furniture right infront of the bar counter, renovation blends in simple  modernisation feel with unique table arrangements with white chairs and pieces of funky arts adorning the wall.

Nubacha @ Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho, Melaka-Malacca

  • Restaurant Sin Eng Lock @ Taman Peringit Jaya, Melaka

    Introduction:

Should you want to try some good food in Malacca, you would probably need a local to take you around. And of course not those commecialised restaurants at the historical town. I mean the real local hidden gem.

    Ambiance:

Not expecting a grand decor or very comfortable environment. Old school classic kopitiam (coffeeshop) style with foldable tables and plastic chairs. Not too stuffy though, air ventilation considered okay.

    Food:

The family run restaurant has been around for 35 years or more and they serve awesome home cooked food.

Braised chicken feet with cut chillies and ginger

One of my favorite grandma dish. We used to prepare this dish together, but she's too old to cook now though. Hardly find one that pleases me but this was pleasing.

    Braised pork with eggs

Extremely tender braised pork with savorly delicious thick gravy. Flavorful!

    Curry Fish Head

Big portion of fish head prepared with aromatic curry gravy.

    Steam Lala

Extremely fresh and juicy lala steamed with plenty of ginger, spring onions and or course the traditional Shao Xing wine. Love this very much!

  • Restaurant Sek Yuen @ Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur

    Introduction:

Sek Yuen Restaurant  has been around for 50 years or more and has a huge following- and no wonder for this might easily be rated as one of the famous old chinese restaurants. Funny it seems, there are actually two outlets with the new one just right beside the old restaurant. The difference would only be that the new outlet is with air conditiong. But then again, both outlets are always packed.

    Ambiance:

An almost no decor restaurant with a vintage feel. The only decor would be their fluorescent signboard which was added in the recent year. Tables and chairs actually remain from the 50's.

Restaurant Sek Yuen @ Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur

    Food & Beverages:

The restaurant serves Chinese cuisine and dishes prepared on a 100% wood fire- the old cooking style. Promised fresh ingredients at all times.

Stir fried eggs with shark fins
Aromatically fried, not too greasy with generous amount of pleasant-smokey-woodfire aromatic shark fins.

    Roasted duck (Pei Pa Ngap)
Stylishly roasted with a half-century recipe. Crispy skin with it's well maintained tenderness. Blended well with the sweet and sour sauce served along.

    Stir fried vege with prawns.
    Deliciously fried with succulent prawns.

Steamed Cod Fish- Ginger soy sauce steamed
Fresh, juicy and smooth with a natural milky flavour in the palate. Thumbs up!

    Wrap up:

The bill came out to be RM 109.00. Apologies for no detail price breakdown of the dishes.
There is no other reason this restaurant is still crowded after more than 50 years.  If you are craving for delicious authentic Chinese cuisine, Sek Yuen would be a good choice. Be early as the restaurant is full as usual and parkings are limited.
