• 15 other food in Malacca to try out - by iloveyummyfood.com

It's not about Satay Celup or Chicken Rice Balls.  Every now and then each time when I am back to my hometown, I realised there is always an amazingly long queue for these two! But, really!!?? There are just so much more to try out, proud to say- am blessed to grow up here. Here're my sharings.

    01) Restaurant Sin Eng Lock @ Taman Peringit Jaya, Melaka

The restaurant's signature dishes - authentic curry fish head and extremely fresh steamed lala.
Serving for 4 as per above with a total bill of MYR 114.00
Not easy to locate as it is not too far and yet not too near to the town. Perhaps GPS can help.

    Restaurant Sin Eng Lock
    363 A, Taman Peringgit Jaya
    75400 Melaka
    Tel: +606- 2834391

    02) Lala Bihun Bukit Beruang ( Lala Vermicelli) Bukit Beruang Melaka

Here's another hidden gem. The owner runs the business at the back lane of his terrace house. Signature dishes- lala bihun (option of soup or fried). Fresh and distinctive. Other dishes are good too. Warning- you might find it depressing at the cook shouts most of the time to delegate work (at least when I was there)

No 12, Taman Bukit Beruang Indah,
    75450 Bukit Beruang, Melaka
    Rest on Monday.
Operating hours 11.30 am - 3 pm for lunch , 5 pm onwards Dinner

    03) Auntry Fatso Re
    staurant at Melaka Raya

Malaccan would know where to head to for something different! Aunty Fatso's signature dish, cheese bihun with big prawns. The restaurant serves seafood dishes. 75200 Melaka

    05) Yam Rice & Pork Meat Soup @ Restaurant Kok Keong

The shop has been operating for 70 years or so. Used to be much better during the old days. Not too bad still now. Signature dish pork meat soup, also known as bak kee in Hokkien is similar to our local famous dish- Bak Kut Teh, a Chinese cuisine popularly served in Malaysia and Singapore.
    Jalan Kampung Pantai
(one block in from Lorong Hang Jebat)

    06) Hee Kiaw Noodles, Braised Pork & Assam Fish Rice at Yuek Ching Bukit Beruang

Now one of my favorite place for Hee Kiaw ( Fish Paste) noodles with aromatic pork lard sauce. You might one to try out their braised pork and authentic chinese style assam fish. The restaurant is located near Bukit Beruang housing area. Restaurant normally very busy in the morning.

    Exit Jalan Bukit Beruang,
    Taman Bukit Melaka
    75450 Melaka

    07) Wan Tan Noodles at Kampung Lapan Melaka

One of my childhood favorite. What's for supper?? And here we go. They used to operate at Jalan Kee Ann and one of the brother moved out to Kampung Lapan Coffee Shop ( only the locals know I bet) Malacca Style Wan Tan Noodles ( no black sauce ) with thick flavorful pork lard sauce. Taste even better with chilli! Simply satisfying. By the way, there are few stalls here, do try the oyster omellete and grilled chicken wings too!

Kedai Makanan & Minuman Chop Beeng Cheong
    Kampung Lapan, Malacca

    08) Bukit Cina Yong Tao Foo at Dong Fang Coffee Shop

There are actually two coffeeshops along this street which is famous for its Yong Tao Foo. It's a one way street- the one on the left famous for their home made fish balls. The one on the right which (one I am reviewing here) is located at Dong Fang CoffeeShop famous for its taukee. Fried beancurd skin wrapped with fish paste. Yes, they are generous with the fish paste. Nothing special about its noodles though.

    Dong Fang Coffee Shop
( located along the street to Melaka Singh Temple)

    09) Taiwanese Pork Chop Noodles,Hing Loong at Bachang

Hing Loong Taiwanese Noodle Housewith more than 30 years of history that serves irresistible pork rib noodles and spicy beef noodles. Love the aromatic deep fried pork chop. MYR 4.60/bowl. Oh yes! The noodle house is famous for its beef noodles too.

    Hing Loong Taiwanese Noodle
    No. 11-J, Jalan Bachang,

    10) Popiah at Jalan Kee Ann (Bunga Raya)

The awesome popiah in town! Popiah (spring roll) with cooked turnip, fried eggs and thick crispy pork lard. Just so yummy!

    Popiah Stall
    Infront of Madam King Emporium
    Jalan Bunga Raya

    11) Tong Bee Stall @ side lane of Jalan Kee Ann (Bunga Raya)

Don't know where else to head too? Here's a suggestion. Dare you to try!
The stall offers various type uncommon cockles, snails and other shellfish. Other than this, the stall serves snack plates like fried bean curd with fishballs and cuttlefish with water spinach (kang kung) as well. All you need to do is be seated on the low tables and enjoy!

    Jalan Kee Ann (Bunga Raya)
Side lane after passing Madam Kings Shopping Centre
(so make sure you park your car upon reaching Madam King)

    12) Baba Charlie Nyonya Kuih at Jalan Tengkera Pantai2C

Kuih is a fairly broad term which may include items that would be called cakes, cookies, dumplings, pudding, biscuit, or pastries and are more often steamed than baked. One of the place where you can find kuihs prepared with ultimate rule of Peranakan food! Authentic!

    Jalan Tengkere Pantai 2C
    Melaka

    13) Original Coconut Shake @ Jalan Klebang Besar, Melaka

Need to introduce more? Well known enough I bet. A good stop to quench your thirst.
Ice blended coconut juice with plenty tiny bits of coconut pulps top with vanilla ice cream. Cool & Refreshing!

Along Jalan Klebang (right before the Caltex petrol station)

    14) Dim Sum at Sin How Wei, Sin Hoe Bukit Baru Food Court Dim

Where to go for dim sum in Malacca? Well couple of restaurants out there, Sin How Wei at the top of the list. Awesome tasteful fishball with bouncy and fluffy texture. Other dim sum are good too. Ready to pack home for your love ones. Limited seats available though.

    15) Steamed Pork bun (bao) at Low Yong Moh Restaurant, Jalan Tukang Emas

The restaurant is  located at the street before the oldest temple in Malacca. Long queue at time. Well, head here ONLY for their big pork bun (aka bak bao). Extremly juicy ( almost to soupy) pork bun. Nothing to shout about on their dim sum dishes though.

    32, Jalan Tukang Emas,
    75200 Melaka

Happy to share! Perhaps you might want to try this out on your next get away to Malacca.

  • Bali Cafe @ Jetty Malacca

Besides, satay celup or asam pedas, there are plenty of places for night snacks in Malacca!

Had a drinking and late night snacks session with my family at Bali Cafe. We have not tried their in-house dishes but we are delighted with the grilled food served by a lady-probably hired by the cafe owner? Not so sure though.....

Bali Cafe @ The Jetty, Malacca

    BBQ Chicken @ RM 15.00
Grilled to perfection. Well marinated with spices- tasted good!

    BBQ Mushroom @ RM 4.50
BBQ Long Bean @ RM 3.00

You wouldn't grill these at home, will you? Unless you are having a BBQ party ! Besides, pepper and salt- I wonder what are the other ingredients used. Yes, it's good, good & good.

    BBQ Brinjal/Aubergine/Eggplant @ RM 6.00

Why on earth do we have so many names for just a particular vegetable/plant? I don't know! Anyway, the grilled BBQ brinjal was good too- grilled with pounded chilli and garlics, pepper and salt! Flavorful!

And, if you are grilling all these back at home, can you invite me over? Make sure it's nice though. *Grins*
